An extension and refurbishment of the crematorium creates a dedicated waiting area, processional gallery, and new 160-seat chapel. Integral to the scheme is the formation of three cloistered gardens, each paired through a physical or visual relationship with one of those interior spaces.
Where the existing crematorium lacks a clear spatial sequence and suffers from excessive enclosure, this proposal looks to form a supportive procession of sheltered but daylit spaces with views to verdant gardens beyond.
A pool with running water becomes the visual and audial pivot of the arrangement, guiding visitors whilst ensuring their contemplation remains undisturbed by the busy roads and runway they neighbour.
